Harper Government Celebrates Glenn Gould as National Historic Person Canadian cultural icon commemorated at plaque unveiling ceremony
Toronto, Ontario, February 21, 2013 –
– On behalf of the Honourable Peter Kent, Canada’s Environment Minister and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, Mr. John Carmichael, Member of Parliament for Don Valley West, today unveiled a Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada plaque commemorating the national historic significance of Glenn Gould. A special ceremony was held in Toronto at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts to celebrate the musical icon.
“Glenn Gould opened doors to an unconventional musical world,” said Mr. Carmichael. “An iconic figure of Canadian art and media, Mr. Gould bequeathed Canadians an innovative and brilliant body of work. His contribution enriches our cultural landscape.”
