Following a win for Best Biography Documentary Program at the twenty-fifth Gemini Awards ceremony held in Toronto on November 13, 2010, Genius Within: The Inner Life of Glenn Gould was recently short-listed for an Academy Award. The announcement came on November 18 from The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which included nods to fifteen films in total (out of one hundred and one) in the category of Best Long Form Documentary. A live announcement of the five nominees (to be determined by members of the Documentary Branch) is set to take place at 5:30am PT on Tuesday, January 25 in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theatre. The Academy Awards will be presented at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday, February 27.

Directed by Michèle Hozer and Peter Raymont and produced by White Pine Pictures with distribution in Canada by Union Pictures, Genius Within premiered at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival. Since then, it has received screenings around the world, having made appearances at the Vancouver International Film Festival, Seattle Film Festival, Sarasota Film Festival, Sydney Film Festival (Australia), International Documentary Film Festival (Netherlands), Thessaloniki Documentary Festival (Greece), Latin American Film Festival (Cuba) and Planete Doc Review (Poland). Genius Within is slated for DVD release by Morningstar Entertainment in February.
