The Glenn Gould Foundation staff and the eight performing artists appearing in an evening concert for the Governor General of Canada met with Prime Minister Harper in his Parliamentary office.
The group received a warm welcome from the Prime Minister in his Parliamentary office. He accepted gifts including Glenn Gould books and music and a Venezuelan condecoración from Glenn Gould Prize Laureate, Dr. José Antonio Abreu, presented by eleven-year-old El Sistema cellist, Miguel Ángel Cegarra. Prime Minister Harper also shared his experiences as a young piano student and how music positively impacted his early life.
“I found that it was an amazing experience performing at Rideau Hall in front of Their Excellencies the Governor General and Mrs. Johnston. I feel as if it was a very big and important music event and this inspired me to play my very best. I also really enjoyed meeting the Prime Minister. This was all a huge and great experience for me!” - William Franklyn Leathers, age 9
