The City of Toronto Glenn Gould Protégé Prize

This exceptional pianist is considered a leader in the new breed of young, internationally acclaimed jazz artists. An excellent musician with an innate ability to communicate his ideas through his music, he draws upon the influences of Art Blakey, Bud Powell, Wynton Kelly and Cedar Walton. Born in 1963, Benny Green has played with major artists such as Bobby Watson, Betty Carter and Freddie Hubbard and with his colleagues, Ray, Herb and Jeff, with whom he performed during this gala. He also has his own Trio.

Benny Green was personally selected by Oscar Peterson to receive the first City of Toronto Glenn Gould Protégé Prize.
