The Glenn Gould Prize

Nominations for the 16th Laureate are open

About The Glenn Gould Prize

Inaugurated by The Glenn Gould Foundation in 1987, the Glenn Gould Prize honours an individual who has enriched the human condition through their lifelong contribution to the arts.

Now awarded biennially, the Prize recognizes artistic excellence, innovation, and cultural humanitarianism in the work and lives of its Laureates.

The Prize stands among the world’s preeminent arts awards, recognizing excellence in any artistic discipline, limited not only to music but including all fields of significant artistic expression.

In 1993 The Glenn Gould Protégé Prize was added. The Protégé is selected by the Laureate and is a young artist who shows the promise of an exceptional artistic career that demonstrates`the values of the Glenn Gould Prize. Protégés are honoured alongside the Laureate and receive a cash award of $25,000.

Our work is guided by the belief that the arts are a force for human development, social advancement and individual enlightenment. Through the Prize, we elevate the achievements of the world’s living masters to illuminate the unique value of the arts in the lives of people everywhere.

About the statue

The Glenn Gould Prize sculpture is an original work, created by Canadian artist, Ruth Abernethy. It depicts a solitary Gould, walking on a late winter’s day, with the sun low in the sky, forming an elongated bronze shadow at the base of the figure.
