The GGF Congratulates our Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards Recipients

Hearty congratulations go to our Glenn Gould Foundation board member John Kim Bell on receiving the 2023 Ramon John Hnatyshyn Award for Volunteerism in the Performing Arts, one of this year’s Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards.
This is the most important award given in Canada to those who advance the performing arts in this country. John Kim’s creation of the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation and Awards was a landmark statement in Canada – a powerful voice of support for the independence, confidence, and recognition of Indigenous peoples in this country, after centuries of oppression.
The foundation, now known as Indspire, invests in Indigenous people for the long-term benefit of Canada. When the awards were first presented in 1994, one of the seven recipients was Alanis Obomsawin, our 13th Glenn Gould Prize laureate.
Singer extraordinaire k.d. lang, one of the jurors who selected Gustavo Dudamel as the laureate for the 2022 Glenn Gould Prize, was also named a recipient of this year’s Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards.
The award winners will be honoured by Governor-General Mary Simon at Rideau Hall in the spring, ahead of a ticketed gala to be held at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa on May 27.
The GGF applauds and congratulates all winners of this year’s awards, especially those who have been instrumental in ensuring that the GGF continues to thrive and flourish.
