Our Collaborators

Since our founding in 1983, The Glenn Gould Foundation has had the privilege of working with musicians, artists, cultural leaders, not-for-profits, and corporations from around the world. With their involvement, we have presented concerts, festivals and educational programs, supported young artists, commissioned new works, worked with journalists, writers and academic researchers, produced and shared expertise with various publications, and been active with a wide assortment of other humanitarian and cultural activities. Here is a partial list of these essential collaborators.

  • The Glenn Gould Foundation Gala was absolutely spectacular. I was humbled to be honoured by so many great artistic minds in one setting. I commend your support of the Arts, especially that of the Glenn Gould Foundation and their biennial prize, which I consider to be the Nobel Prize of the Arts. – Addressed to PM Justin Trudeau
    Philip Glass
Composer, pianist, and eleventh laureate of the Glenn Gould Prize
  • Stephen Fry
I had the tremendously rewarding experience in 2011 of being a member of the Glenn Gould Prize Jury. It was a stimulating and unforgettable experience to engage around a table with such a diverse array of gifted artists to consider a staggering slate of nominees. The discussions enabled us to look deeply into the importance of the arts in all our lives, and their value to the world as a whole. Glenn Gould is one of my heroes… I believe cultural, creative, and artistic communities the world over can unite under the banner of this great Canadian and world citizen.
    Stephen Fry
    Actor, director, and writer
  • Janice Price
As a senior arts administrator with experience in both the United States and Canada, I cannot stress enough the significance of the Glenn Gould Prize as a beacon of excellence throughout the world. With the additional component of the Protégé Prize, bestowed by the recipient on an artist or practitioner with an emerging global impact, these prizes are nurturing the future generation who will go on to continue the legacy of Glenn Gould and past prize winners. Their impact in the critically important dialogue about the role of arts and culture in civil society cannot be overstated.
    Janice Price
President and CEO, Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity
  • The work of Glenn Gould and the Foundation of the same name have had an impact on my professional career as an artist, as well as countless others, not only in Toronto, but nationally and internationally. This devotion by the Foundation to create a community for artists can be seen in their ability to understand the cultural ecosystem in which we live.
    Nyla Innuksuk
    Film director, writer, and producer
  • Viggo Mortensen
The Foundation represents values and ideas about the role of the arts in society that are important to everyone: building understanding through human communication, striving for excellence, using creativity to promote a wide range of social goods (like mental health, child welfare, anti-racism, social cohesion, and education), and encouraging innovation.
    Viggo Mortensen
    Hollywood actor
  • Yo-Yo Ma
The Glenn Gould Prize has a pre-eminent position among the world’s honours for cultural achievement … it’s Canada’s gift to the world.
    Yo-Yo Ma
Musician and fifth laureate of the Glenn Gould Prize
  • Deepa Mehta
The Glenn Gould Prize shows Canada as a creative and innovative nation…prestigious,
    similar to the Olympics.
    Deepa Mehta
    Filmmaker
  • Music saved my life and has saved the lives of thousands of at-risk children in Venezuela…like food, like healthcare, like education, music has to be a right for every citizen.
    Gustavo Dudamel
Music Director of the LA Philharmonic and recipient of the 2008 Glenn Gould Protégé Prize.
